Visitor Parking & Garden

We are starting off this year with a bang – looking at the finish line. It has been a long two and a half years, from design, to engineer plans, permits and inspections with both State and County, deadlines, reports, and finally we can see the product of all the efforts put forth on our behalf.
Were it not for many dedicated volunteers, (really too many to list in this corner) the process would not have come together so fluidly. (That is not a pun.) One of the most noteworthy is Jim Day and his crew and Matt Gibson of Rivercrest Design Build, Inc. who are responsible for the beautiful deck.
A lot of nails were driven, a lot of pictures taken to record the work detail. But one man stands out above all, and that is the “Project Manager,” Jack Smith, who did a masterful job, staying on top of permits, plans, and giving encouragement and support when needed. Thank you, again, Jack.
Also a super thanks to Adrianne Day who waded her way through mountains of paper work dealing with the grant system. A mere thank you seems so insufficient but heartfelt none the less. We should also thank Francis Ray Moreland for not letting the weather get the better of him and pushing ahead one delay after another.
In addition to the deck, much work has been completed on the museum grounds. Along the front road, 400 square feet of concrete slab has been removed from the enclosed lot.
Also removed was another 1800 square feet of CR6 (large crushed rock) which will be replaced with topsoil.
Anne Arundel County requires the following to be replanted (which will be done early this spring) 19 bushes in front of the asphalt and a small line of trees in front of the wall.
We are also creating two garden areas – one for the wetland plants and another with native plants.

Dedication of Visitor Parking and Gardens

May 19th, at 1:00 P.M., will be the official dedication of the parking area and gardens at the museum with dignitaries from both the State and County and Special Honored Guests invited. A special plaque will be placed on the brick wall noting our deep appreciation for all the help we received in this project. Please plan to be with us as we mark yet another milestone in our Heritage Society’s journey. Click here for photos of the garden dedication, and photos during the construction.
