July 4th Celebration, Parade

Enjoy your celebration of American independence!

Parade - 1:00 PM

Galesville 4th of July Celebration Parade
Down Main Street at 1:00 PM on Monday July 4, 2011

Contact Charlie Kidd at 410- 867- 4952 for questions or information

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, kids of all ages; its show time in Galesville!
The Declaration of Independence, unanimously declared by the thirteen United States of America, was adopted by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. Our community celebration of this glorious event will be paraded right down Main Street at 1 PM on Monday July 4, 2011. Please note the time change from last year, and plan your family cookouts and back yard sparkler displays around a fun filed Norman Rockwell event.
Not everyone has the talent to “Dance with the Stars, or be the next “American Idol!” However, we all have a hidden desire to strut our showmanship down Main Street. This year we again have a most honored Grand Marshall, so deserving and worthy of our appreciation for all she and her family have done for our village. None other than Mrs. Betty Moreland, will highlight the family designed Grand Marshall float. Now I’ve let the cat out of the bag, but my lips are sealed as to their float design. The village buzz is there will be more floats this year competing for one of the 25 coveted trophies.

  • Staging and later judging will be conducted on Anchors Way beginning @ 12:00 noon!
  • Enter the procession via Lerch Creek Drive and follow around to the designated area.
  • Order of staging will be fire trucks on Main Street as is customary.
  • Line up on Anchors Way will be as follows,
      • AHSNROTC Color Guard,
      • Uncle Sam
      • Grand Marshall Car,
      • Grand Marshall Float,
      • Antique Fire Trucks
      • Classic Cars,
      • Antique Tractors,
      • Annapolis Marching Band and Bugle Corps
      • Floats
      • Bicycles
      • Golf Carts
      • Small Tractors,
      • Pedestrians, and
      • Equestrian.
  • Traffic will be blocked from entering Anchors Way @ NOON so plan on staging early. Main Street will be closed from 12:45 PM for about one hour. Plan accordingly!
  • I want every parent to have their child, grandchild, and spouse that acts like a child, decorate their bike and make this the largest armada of bicycles to invade our village with colorful red white and blue ever! OK, let’s put on your thinking caps, ponder outside the box or bun, and come up with the wildest, craziest, zaniest, PG rated patriotic display of Independence Day possible. Originality will go a long way in winning one of those coveted trophies!

All entrants will receive a participants ribbon redeemable for a huge smile and applause from the spectators.
We are still working on a few surprises that will make you smile and be proud. However @ press time confirmation has not been completed. So you certainly do not want to be part of the uninformed and miss the parade.
Circle the date Monday July 4th and note the time of 1300 hours, (1 PM local) for a time to “Let Us Entertain You!”
Speaking of the WRIA, please remember to thank Joan Bell for her tireless effort to keep the flags flying on our lovely Main Street. They were severely damaged this past winter and have required much attention to detail. Thanks Joan, now get out there and enjoy some sailing! Stay tuned for the latest news in on going developments in this regard.
For all of our walkers and joggers, should you come upon some litter in your journey around the village, please bend over, pick it up, and discard it appropriately. Let’s put our best foot forward this holiday and have a fun filled, safe celebration. Remember to hydrate with cool bottled water. Should you be out of town, we wish you a glorious day with family and friends.
Contact Charlie Kidd, parade coordinator, representing the Galesville Heritage Society for any offer of assistance, participation, or suggestions, at 410- 867- 4952.
Remember it takes a village to make it happen…
